This set of five slipcase-bound books is third in a series that introduces the fundamentals of reading to children from pre-school through grades K and 1. This set’s long-vowel titles are five volumes in a comprehensive 18-volume set of basic readers. They use the phonics method as they teach kids to recognize words in which the dominant vowel sound is the long a, e, i, o, or u. Each book in this set concentrates on a single vowel. All are Level 2 readers that present amusing stories with eye-catching color illustrations. Each title also suggests an activity that encourages kids to interact with the book’s subject matter. Follow-up material in each book includes a word list, summarizing all the words being taught, plus a letter to parents and teachers explaining the fundamental concepts underlying both the series and the specific title.
