“Open Me for Curiouser and Curiouser Surprises!”
Retold by Harriet Castor, Illustrated by Zdenko Basic - All books by this author

This modernized and condensed retelling of Lewis Carroll’s 1865 children’s classic captures the spirit of the original text, and is enhanced with brilliant full-color artwork that suggests the Victorian styles of original illustrator John Tenniel and many other Alice illustrators who followed him. But the artwork in this brand-new edition differs from all others in a very important way. It’s enhanced with a variety of extra features to delight young readers and add to the story’s excitement. They include—

  • A pull-tab that makes Alice grow and grow
  • A pop-up courtroom scene
  • Doors on flaps that open to show an assortment of curious objects
  • A special tab that makes the Cheshire Cat magically disappear
  • An attached Mushroom Booklet that helps Alice return to normal size
Kids will love reading this famous tale, which has delighted readers of all ages for nearly a century and a half—and they’ll be enchanted by the magical illustrations on every page. Publication of this new retelling of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is timed to coincide with the widely anticipated release of Tim Burton’s new film from the Disney Studios, Alice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. (Ages 8 and older)

About The Author:
Harriet Castor
began her career writing children’s books at the tender age of 12 when in 1982 she wrote a book about a fat cat named Fat Puss. She was born in Cambridge, England, and has worked as a children’s book editor. Currently, she is concentrating on writing for children on a full-time basis.

About The Illustrator:
Zdenko Basic
was born in Zagreb, Croatia and is a graduate of the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. He is an award-winning illustrator of many children's books and he also illustrates articles for children's magazines. His work has been displayed at the Zagreb carnival, and since 2004 he has been working with the renowned Merlin Theatre in Somerset, England, as a costume, scenic, and graphic designer.

Alice’s Many Illustrators
Filmmaker Tim Burton and illustrator Zdenko Basic are just the latest in a long line of Alice’s illustrators. First and most famous was Sir John Tenniel (1820–1914), who illustrated the first edition of Alice in Wonderland in 1865. Nearly as famous are Arthur Rackham (1867–1939) and Peter Newell (1862-1924), who both retained a charming Victorian flavor in their illustrations. In 1951, Alice received the distinctive Walt Disney look in the animated film, Alice in Wonderland.
