Expanding Zones of Exchange and Encounter (500 – 1200): Five chapters covering the Byzantine Empire, Medieval Europe, the rise and spread of Islam, southern and eastern Asia, and the Americas

Global Interactions (1200 – 1650): Five chapters covering the Renaissance, the Reformation, the commercial revolution, global interactions in Asia, and empires in the Americas

The First Global Age (1450 – 1770): Five chapters covering the rise of nation-states, the growth of democracy in England, the age of exploration, civilizations in Africa, globalism in the Middle East and Asia

An Age of Revolutions (1750 – 1810): Three chapters covering the Enlightenment and scientific revolution, the French Revolution, and the Napoleonic Age
