With clearly annotated illustrations, this fascinating manual demonstrates
  • Openings, both classic and modern, and their underlying principles
  • Gambits, or sacrificing a piece to gain a positional advantage
  • Pawn structures
  • End game patterns involving rook and pawns, knight and pawns, or bishop and pawns
The book’s more than 300 examples demonstrate attack and defense strategies for chess’s openings, middle game, and end game. Here is a comprehensive and compact reference guide that will find a ready place in school and private chess clubs.
